Keep the Commandments!

  1. 1. Keep the commandments; keep the commandments!

    In this there is safety; in this there is peace.

    He will send blessings;

    He will send blessings.

    Words of a prophet:

  2. [Chorus]

  3.  Keep the commandments.  In this, there is safety and peace

  4. 2. We are His children; we are His children,

    and we must be tested to show we are true.

    Hold to His promises;

    Hold to His promises,

    Heeding the prophets:

  5. LDS Primary song pg. 146

  6. With the familiar sounds from the tabernacle choir, keep the commandments, keep the commandments, in this, there is safety and peace.

After reading Exodus 20:3-17, It is clear what God requires of us.  He needs us to keep His commandments.

The Israelites were given these strict commandments during the time the times of Exodus.  They were blessed yet they murmur and forgot the Lord at times.  Like the ancient people of Moses were obligated to these commandments, so are we, the house of Israel.

Exodus 20:3-17

If I may elaborate on these commandments.  #1 Have no other Gods.  The Israelites made them idols and worshipped them when Moses took a long time away from them.  Aaron his brother took the women's golden earrings and made a golden calf for the Israelites.  Unbelievable that Aaron would be the one to make the golden calf.  God is a Jealous God and He truly meant what He said, No other Gods before Him.

#2 Do not make an Idol or any Likeness.  God repeated and elaborate what He really mean in number 1.  He can't be number 2.  He is always number 1 and above all things.

#3 Do not take the name of the Lord God in vain. When I think about this, I realized that His name is really much in the Old Testament or the New Testament.  He's always been referred to as Heavenly Father.  We know Jesus Christ is the son's name and we only speak of His name at the end of our prayers and our talks and teachings.  It is the only name we are saved and advocator to our Father.

#4 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.  We show God our love for Him when we keep the sabbath day holy.  It is a day for our worship and ministering unto our fellow beings.  We rest from our labors and keep ourselves spotless from the world.

#5 Honor your father and mother.  How important it is that we honor our father and mother.  It is the first commandment with a promise.  We will live long in this world.

#6 No killing Clear and no mistake.  We can't kill anyone.  Unless it's self-defense,  that is my thoughts.

#7 Do not commit adultery.  This is one of the things that the Israelites suffered from, for them back and to this day, we are commanded not to commit adultery.  Keep our covenants with our spouse and God.

#8 Do not steal.  I think of this commandment as being honest.  Do not touch anything that doesn't belong to you.  It is the token of our faith when we obey this commandment.

#9 Do not bear false witness.  We must never bear false witness against anyone.  We know it happens when people lied to jail someone, an innocent man being bound because someone purposely lied. It's really sad, but it happens in the world today.  How can people do that?  Well, God will provide justice.

#10 Do not Covet thy neighbor's belongings.  When we are greedy and do things because our neighbor's got the same.  It leads us to sin and commit more sins as a consequence.  I've seen it with my own eyes.  The fighting and the greediness.  It had broken families and friends because they want their neighbor's stuff.  I grew up on the island poor and was the only child.  I was taught by my parents to be content with what we had.  I took that to heart, but it made me strive to live a better life than when I was a child.  I'm grateful for this gospel and what it teaches me, it teaches me to strive toward the best and the kingdom of God.

I know that God loves us His children.  He needs us to return back to Him.  In order for us to return back to Him, we must keep all His commandments.  We strive to keep His commandments every day.  I know that we can never be perfect, but through the atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ, we can be able to be perfected and return back to our Father in Heaven.

 Thank you so much for reading, and hope that we can make every day as a good day to keep His commandments.  Have a good one and God bless!
