I'm ready not be to be bound only, but also to die...for the Lord Jesus Christ. When we hear this saying, it does illustrate to us that Paul was ready to suffer for Jesus Christ. He has been bound so many times, what's another one gonna do. He would even die. What is really interesting to me is that every missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does covenant that they will sacrifice their time, talent, and their life if need be to build the Kingdom of God on earth.
This is a portion of Paul's words recorded in Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to adie at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
If we think back to Peter and how he denied the Lord Jesus Christ three times before the cock crow. It's because he hasn't received the gift of the Holy Ghost. That true conviction wasn't there yet. It wasn't until Jesus Christ went back to Heaven that Peter was truly converted. It was then he performed so many miracles, and he never feared for his life. He was willing to die for Jesus Christ. Paul had been the longest missionary ever to be in the history of time. He had been so many trials, convictions that he will never deny the chance to die for Jesus Christ. They sealed their testimony with their blood. They died martyred for the name of Jesus Christ.
I think about myself, and how far I'm willing to suffer for my Savior Jesus Christ, I still need a lot of work on my faith. I can honestly say I will die for Jesus Christ anytime and any day, but to actually go through would probably be another story. I know I need to have more faith and be truly convicted to have the willingness to suffer and die for Jesus Christ.
If we study the life of Jesus Christ and the life of Paul carefully, they are somewhat similar. Towards the end of both of their lives, they were illegally accused of crimes that they didn't commit. They end up losing their lives because they both love their Father in Heaven. I do testify that if we love Jesus Christ with all our heart, mind, and soul, we will be willing to die for Him anytime, any day.
